How it works.
Who decides when a Legacy message is released?
The message creator establishes the intended release instructions and designates an executor responsible for authorizing release. Last Word provides the technology that supports the message and its controlled access. Last Word does not act as an executor or independently determine whether the creator's release conditions have been met.
Does a Legacy message have to be released after someone dies?
No. Legacy is not limited to posthumous messages. A creator may establish other circumstances for authorized release, including situations where the creator is unable to release a message personally. Available release arrangements depend on the functionality supported by the Legacy product.
Can someone scan the card before the message is released?
Yes. A recipient can possess and scan their Legacy Card before release. They can see that a message exists, but the contents remain locked until the designated executor authorizes release.
What happens if the designated executor becomes unavailable?
Release authority remains with the person or persons designated under the creator's instructions and any supported successor arrangements. Last Word does not automatically assume executor authority.
When does Legacy launch?
